I used to think Merdeka celebration was superficial. The stage performances were colorful, getting every races together, smilling to show unity.
The reality on ground, as we know, is quite different…
Tonight, as I sit in the penang Merdeka celebration, I feel a sense of responsibility to unite all races in our country, no matter how superficial the stage performance were planned, no matter how hard they tried to involv every races. Everyone should have a stake in this country.
I noticed my perspectives have changed.
I have to work hard to make sure true unity is achieved. I think General election and recent by election have spoke loudly the need to do so.
I truly hope one day, we can achieve true unity both on stage and in real life…
Happy Merdeka to beloved Malaysia and Malaysians.

Before you write off stage performances as superficial, go find out what happens behind the scenes to put such shows together. To you it might be a stage performance, to the performers that’s real life - life of having to move together on the same beat of the music in the same way and send the same message - regardless of race or religion. This is possible because there’s a clear and decisive consensus by all the performers led by a leader who has the vision and the skill to put the performance together.

Thanks Jiin Joo for enlightening. I am taking the cue from stage performance to comment on national unity. Right now, I see more value of these performances. Everyone has a stake in the performances, regardless of race and religion. I truly hope that, one day, everyone has a bigger stake in this country, no one left behind, regardless of race or religion.
